Over Print and Trapping

• Check all of your trapping to ensure that you do not have any white type over printing. This will look good on your screen and lazer printer but it will not image on press. If white type is set to overprint, it will do precisely that. Meaning it will not knock out the underlaying colour. Since white is basically printing of none. Your type will dissapear. This is a very common problem if some text in a text block is black which does overprint and some is white. You must select the white type and then go to trap settings in which ever program you are using. Overprint must be turned off at this point.

Our final Digital proofs will show everything as it will print. ROOM technology will catch this problem. It is now up to the human eye to spot it.

• At Tri-Tech Trapping is done automatically on all jobs. There is no need to spend the hours creating outlines on images just so the print correctly. Our in-rip trapping looks after all of this for you.

There may be a case of wanting some special trapping. Large white type is an example where it is printed inside a supported black background (Black with an underlying colour of Cyan, magenta, and/or yellow)
Special trapping with white can be done by adding .1% of Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow to the white color. It will still print as white, however the in-rip trapping will think there is colour in the background and create a choke when placed on top of a supported black. This will create a trap on the black with only black creating the outline of the type. This is a great little trick where you have a support black 40% Cyan, and 100% black. This will eliminate any chance of the Cyan showing in the white type on the edges.
