Short to Medium run Digest Magazine Printing of choice!
Digest Magazine printing- There is a growing trend towards
the digest size magazine. (approx. 5 1/5" x 8")
The reason's are many. Cost of production compared to the overall print cost.
Reduced mailings and a format that fits shelf space.
At Tri-Tech we have perfected the printing of these smaller format magazines.
Specialty equipment is needed to handle production on these smaller size magazines.
Our entire bindery is state of the art. In fact most of our bindery equipment
was purchased new in 2007 or later. New technology in this area allows
for the folding and stitching of these smaller magazines without creasing or marking which has been an ongoing issue with this format size.
How can new technology alone make the difference?
In the past folders were configured with rubber rollers against hardened steel rollers. Our Stahl Folder is rubber to rubber which is mark free, and folds without creasing. Since rubber to rubber is a softer fold than rubber to steel.
We have added a stacker at the end of the folder which then squeezes it tight giving you a very sharp layflat signature.
From your final files being supplied to us, your Digest Printing will be hassle free. Every step in our magazine production is geared towards efficiency and quality. Our digital proofs and folded imposition proofs are just a small example of what Tri-Tech provides to make your next Digest format Magazine printing easy.
Every step of your Digest Printing is done in-house.
We can produce it when you need it, not when your printer wants to produce it!
Tri-Tech's beginnings date back to the mid 70's. (1974)
From our early days of converting artboards into film on a Camera.
Through to our expansion into Computerized typesetting in 1980
with the then state of the art Compugraphic Typesetting equipment.
Later Tri-Tech was one of the first to start imaging onto film with a Heidelberg Linotronic 330 Imagesetter.
We've always bought the best of available equipment. This is where quality starts.
Our services back then covered the entire spectrum from Paste-up
through to film stripping and proofing.
Tri-Tech served as the Pre-Press company for many of the largest
printers in Ontario before expanding into printing.
Your file is where it all starts, and no company has more experience in this area than the dedicated staff at Tri-Tech (Canada) Inc..
As time passed, all of this old equipment is long gone.
Our entire Pre-Press in now digital and everything is produced using CTP.
Direct to Plate as it is well known today.
There are many different CTP devices on the market today.
Our Heidelberg platesetter is configured for our Komori Press.
After imaging the plate on the CTP it also punches to our Komori press pin specs.
This is done right inside the platesetter.
This ensures the best possible registration on press and best possible colour..
Where others hand punch plate,s offline. There is no way to do this as accurately.
This is where automation is the key to better pricing and better quality.
Expanding and growing your Digest Magazine
The most efficient page counts in Digest format are multiples of 32.
Each section of the magazine is produced as 16 pages over 16page.
32page, 64page, or 96 are the most cost effective.
Adding a 16page section or an 8pages section can be done as well for a nominal fee.
The rule of thumb for any magazine is 40-50% Ad Continent.
This is standard regardless of a Standard or Digest format magazine.
Adjust your page count according to your ad content.
Your run length should also vary depending on your ad content. Greater number of pages the longer the run you can feasibly afford to produce.
Remember advertisers are more interested in how many people view their ad
than they are in how many pages a magazine has.
All of our successful clients adhere to this principle.
When you are first starting your magazine avoid the pressures from those telling you need champagne when you are in the market of selling beer.
Control your costs, and let your advertisers determine the size of your magazine. You will be a success story too!
(after 96 pages we recommend perfect bound, at 96 it's your option)
Going to a Perfect Bound prior to reaching 96 pages
will only add to your cost and make the chances of you growing your
digest magazine that much more difficult. Magazines that stand the test of time
are magazines that make money with at least 40-50% ad content.
Make the jump to Perfect Bound, when the advertising demands it with paid advertising!
When you are ready to make the jump there is nothing you need to do differently
other than create a file for the spine. Guiding you through that process
is very simple. Since we are adjusting the spine width
and doing all the calculations on our end. It will be a perfect fit each and every time.
Where others simply go by previous magazine spine widths.
At Tri-Tech we physically measure the stock.
This we have found is the most accurate way.
The results confirm it. So, if you are looking
to expand your magazine and making the jump to a perfect bound magazine.
